First
Place Dog Training is here to help. Every dog is
different;
we confer with you and customize our program to
meet your
needs. We use positive training techniques. While
participating
in the Doggy Drop off Training, owners are informed
of their
pet's progress with weekly updates. Upon completion
of our
Drop Off Boot Camp program, we will schedule time
to start to train you to be a good leader when you pick up your dog.
(Remember,
we will need to train you, the owner as well.)
The $409 cost of our weekly programs includes training, boarding,
feeding and care of your pet. We will schedule an owner
training session to train the owner, at the time your pet
is scheduled to go home, and this is also included in the
cost of our Bootcamp programs. If you have questions on
the program give us a call. Daily training and refresher
courses are available too.
Our
DOGGY DROP OFF OBEDIENCE PROGRAM is normally a two week
program, occasionally three week program. (however, we
can train your dog for as many days as you like) Dogs
learn all of their basic commands; heel, sit, stay, down
and come. We address all types of behavior problems such
as jumping, chewing, biting, barking, nipping, leash
walking, dog agression, people agression, waiting at
the door, etc. At First Place Dog Training we use positive
reinforcement training, with praise and reward. We have
a modern, indoor, heated and air conditioned facility.
Dogs will receive lots of tender loving care throughout
their stay at Doggie Boot Camp as well as plenty of time
for exercise and conditioning. Our boot camp is the perfect
program for owners with more love than time.

Most dog owners quickly realize that behavior that may be "cute" for a puppy is unacceptable for a more mature or full-grown dog. The Beginning Obedience course at First Place Dog Training is the first step in turning your energetic puppy or dog into a well mannered and obedient canine pet. A dog you are proud to own. Dogs 5 months old and older may join this 6 week course. The group classes work on introducing your dog to such commands as:

6. Reward your dog after the walk.
By providing a meal after the walk, you have allowed your dog to "work" for food and water.
And don’t forget to set a good example by always picking up after your dog!
5. Keep leading, even after the walk.
When you get home, don't stop leading. Have your dog wait patiently while you put away his leash or take off your shoes.
4. How to reward your dog during the walk.
After your dog has maintained the proper state of mind, reward him by allowing him to relieve himself and sniff around. Then you need to decide when reward time is over. It should always be less than the time spent focused on the walk.
3. Give yourself enough time for the dog walk.
Dogs, like humans, are diurnal, so taking walks in the morning is ideal. I recommend setting aside thirty minutes to a full hour. The specific needs of each dog differ. Consult your vet and keep an eye on your dog's behavior to see if his needs are being met.
2. Use a short dog leash.
This allows you to have more control. Attaching the leash to the very top of the neck can help you more easily communicate, guide, and correct your dog. If you need additional help, consider the Illusion collar. Always keep your dog's safety in mind when giving corrections.
6 Tips for Mastering the Dog Walk
Here are 6 dog training tips on how to walk your dog and master the dog walk. When I’m out with my dog pack, I often walk about ten dogs at a time, sometimes even off-leash if I'm in a safe area. People are amazed by this, but it's simple: the dogs see me as their pack leader. This is why dogs follow me wherever I go.
1. Walk in front of your dog.
Walking in front of your dog allows you to be seen as the pack leader. Conversely, if your dog controls you on the walk, he’s the pack leader. You should be the first one out the door and the first one in. Your dog should be beside or behind you during the walk.Dog Language: Whale Eye
When a dog turns his head away, but swivels his eyes around to keep you
in sight, he is displaying "whale eye," and is usually frightened or
guarding something. The whites of his eyes will show in a crescent shape
and disturbing him can lead to growling or snapping. A stiff body
completes the tense picture. Dogs have a sideways glance for more
relaxed moments, too: not much white will show and his body will look at
ease.
